See Why a Special First-Ever ‘Wheel of Fortune’ Contestant Quickly Became a Viral Star

Written by Jason Howerton on . Posted in The Blaze

He survived nine brain surgeries, open heart surgery and has Tourette’s syndrome and Asperger’s syndrome — so no one questions his perseverance.

Trent Girone’s inspiring story and sparkling personality turned him to an overnight viral sensation after he appeared on Wednesday’s “Wheel of Fortune” episode. He is the first-ever special needs contestant on the show, which has been his favorite since he was just 2 years old.

Shortly after Girone, 21, solved the first puzzle, #TeamTrent began trending on Twitter Wednesday. He won over hearts across the country with his enthusiasm on the show as well as what can only be described as a pure joy for life.

“Trent was the best thing to ever happen on wheel of fortune,” one Twitter user wrote.

Though he didn’t win the game, Girone walked away with $2,150 in cash. Still, it’s hard to say that he “lost” anything.

The 21-year-old said appearing on “Wheel of Fortune” was “one of the best days of my life.”

“My best advice to future contestants is to relax and have a good time,” Girone later wrote on his blog.  “It is a lot of fun, whether you win big or not. That is my number one guarantee.”
