Spectator Kindly Offers to Walk Pro Rider’s Bike Down Mountain… It Didn’t End Well After He Decided to Ride It

While mountain bike racing can be dangerous even for skilled competitors, the worst accident of an event in the Smithfield Rainforest in Cairns, Australia, over the weekend came from a spectator.

Professional rider Adam Brayton fell and injured his leg while competing in the 2014 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup and could not continue onward. A spectator and person the Cairns Post identifies Brayton’s friend stepped in to take the bike the rest of the way down.

Instead of walking it down the rough terrain though, this man put himself in the saddle — without a helmet on mind you — and started down the course.

It didn’t end well.

Here are a couple videos of the painful accident:

According to Cairns Post, the friend was taken to a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

“Yo just hit a tree in my run, spectators were awesome couldn’t thank them enough. The guy who took my bike down was a good man, no idea why he hit the whoops but I don’t blame him they were sick,” Brayton wrote in an email toPinkbike. “I think he’s OK though he was in my ambulance on a spine board and was pretty [knocked out] but that’s all I know I’m going to pop down to hospital tomorrow and see how he’s doing.”
